What is Hypnotherapy?

original?tenant=vbu-digital

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis as a stand-alone therapy or as a complement to conventional medicine.  Hypnosis shifts your focus from your current awareness and creates deep relaxation. The hypnotic state is often referred to as a 'trance' or as an altered state of consciousness. You do not lose control but actually become more focused in a specific direction.  It is a natural, safe and effective technique and has a record of success in helping clients deal with anxiety-related problems, insomnia, addiction, fear, pain, IBS and weight loss.

Hypnotherapy can be particularly helpful to cancer patients who may understandably experience anxiety, stress, depression, fear and loss of control. It can also help to reduce the side effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, especially nausea and tiredness. Hypnosis may stimulate the immune system and aid the body in fighting the disease. It  is a powerful tool for coping with these stresses and giving a sense of control, so that hopelessness becomes hopefulness.

According to John Grinder, the American originator of neurolinguistic programming,  " The unconscious mind records all 1001 little details the conscious mind neglects."  Studies show that 95% of brain activity is beyond our conscious awareness. So, only the remaining 5% of our cognitive activities (decisions, emotions, actions, behaviour) is conscious.

Most of us have painful memories - often unconscious - which, over time, can cause difficulties for us if they are not challenged. Such memories and the behaviours to which they give rise can easily become persistent repetitive ways of being that hinder our ability to cope with life.  Hypnotherapy can be extremely effective in helping with unwanted negative thoughts and unproductive behaviours can become less intrusive.
